Thanks to its unique composition, castor oil thoroughly takes care of your eyelashes, giving them the health and beauty they deserve and making your hair grow.

Can You Put Castor Oil on Your Eyelashes?

Yes, you can put castor oil on your eyelashes, and many people use it to support lash health. Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid and fatty acids that help moisturize lashes, reduce dryness, and prevent breakage, which can make eyelashes look thicker and healthier over time.

It does not directly make lashes grow faster, but regular, careful application can improve their appearance by conditioning the hair and keeping the lash line nourished.

Tip: Always use cold-pressed, hexane-free castor oil and apply a very small amount with a clean mascara wand or cotton swab, avoiding contact with the eyes.

What Kind of Castor Oil is Good for Eyelash Growth?

When selecting castor oil for promoting eyelash growth, it’s essential to opt for a high-quality, cold-pressed, and organic product. Look for castor oil that is specifically labeled as “castor oil for eyelashes” or “eyelash growth serum.” Here’s what to consider:

Caution: Perform a patch test before applying castor oil to eyelashes. You can apply a small amount of the oil to a discreet area, such as the inside of your forearm, and wait for 24 hours. If you experience redness, itching, or any discomfort, avoid using the oil to prevent potential allergic reactions or irritation.

Steps to Follow to Grow Your Lashes Using Castor Oil?

Step 1: Clean Your Lashes Carefully

The first step for keeping eyelashes (or skin) healthy is to thoroughly wash and rinse off your makeup every night! My styles developed because my hair follicles on my eyelids were getting clogged (makeup).

Now, even if I am exhausted (and I mean like e-x-h-a-u-s-t-e-d), I always take the time and effort to thoroughly clean my face before bedtime.

What are the risks if you don’t wash your makeup off?

  • Increased eyelash loss
  • Allergy development (mascara, for example)
  • Dry skin, acne.
  • Accelerated aging of the skin (especially due to eye makeup)

While you sleep, your body and cells need to “breathe.”  Removing your makeup every day purifies your skin, allowing it to breathe properly, and thoroughly removing traces of mascara, eye shadow, or eyeliner from your eyes will prevent increased eyelash loss, sty development, or other impurities.

When you wake up the next morning with your face and eyes feeling fresh, I promise you won’t regret spending that extra two minutes cleaning your face the night before.

What’s more is that your face will already be fresh and ready for another day of makeup (or better, embrace your natural beauty and skip a day of wearing makeup – your lashes will benefit tremendously from taking a break in supporting all that mascara).

A Simple Way to Clean Your Lashes

  1. Use 1 cotton ball per eye
  2. Dip it in your eye makeup remover and let it sit a few seconds on your lashes
  3. Gently wipe away, starting with the inside corner eye and working your way outwards

Of course, you can use any makeup remover that you normally use, but specifically, getting a gentle-solution eye makeup remover will greatly help to remove makeup (heavy, waterproof, or light) without damaging your eyelashes with harsh soap, for example.  You can even use castor oil to thoroughly purify your face. However, a makeup remover (and using it daily) is the basic solution in order to avoid any eye problems.  By following only this step, you will already see an improvement in the length and health of your lashes.

Step 2: How to Use Castor Oil for Eyelashes Growth

Now, let’s move on to the specifics of how castor oil acts on your eyelashes.  Castor oil is extremely rich in fatty acids and omega acids. Once applied, the castor oil will work deeply to nourish your lashes from root to tip, allowing your lashes, over time, to grow thicker, longer, and healthier.

Quick Two Ways To Apply Castor Oil To Eyelashes?

To achieve the best results, you can use castor oil for eyelashes in the following three ways:

1. With the help of a mascara brush/tube (that is clean/empty)

This is the ideal application method, as using a mascara brush will evenly spread the oil throughout your lashes from root to tip. It also prevents you from using too much (which can be the case with a q-tip or finger).

2. Or lastly, you can get a bit sticky and apply castor oil to your lashes with your finger

This is what I do just because I don’t have to waste a q-tip and because I lost my castor oil mascara tube in Nepal. I personally apply a small amount and massage them with castor oil each night after cleaning my face and then remove the castor oil when I wake up the next morning.

If you’re just starting this routine, start by applying castor oil to your lashes at least 3 times a week and see the results for yourself.

  1. Hello,
I’m Steven,23 years old.I would like to ask a question about to grow eyebrow hairs on scar.I got a scar on the left eyebrow since I was 12 years old.Now I’ve been using castor oil for eyelashes and eyebrows.I was aware that come to long my eyelashes and thick my eyebrows. So how can I do for that

    • Hey Steven! Thanks for dropping by 🙂 Great to hear you’re using castor oil. Castor oil is also great for reducing visible scar tissue, so continue to massage castor oil on the area at least 2X a day for several weeks. Not only will you see eyebrow thickness as a result, hopefully your scar will diminish over time too.
